Elder Anthony D. Simmons conducted the first service for Overcoming Power Church (OCP) on June 4, 1989, in the Carole Highlands Elementary School, Takoma Park, MD. The service that morning consisted of Sunday School and morning worship. Due to the temporary location of our service on Sunday mornings, weekly prayer service and Bible Study were continued in the Pastor’s home, as well as the homes of Elder Willie and Cora Rious, Mother Marie Simmons and Brother Robert & Sis. Gloria Simmons.
The Combined Usher Board and the Living Witness Drama Ministry were developed. The OCP Stars for Christ choir was organized for the children and the ADS Special choir, named after our Pastor, was started as well as a Mass Choir for all. To encourage the couples, the Power Partners Auxiliary (PPA) was developed for the parents; and the church continued to share the word of God in their families.
Buying a building that is not up for sale...? Like the children of Israel, God heard the cry of the people and sent help from an unexpected source. Laniece Carter, grand-daughter of Mother Dulcia Carter, realized the need of Overcoming Power, and made the church aware of a vacant church building that was not up for sale. God has a way of making the seemingly impossible, a miracle. In 1995 Overcoming Power moved into its present edifice, with a Learning Center next to the church and parking lot directly across the street.
As of June 2016, Overcoming Power Bible Way Church officially changed their name to Overcoming Power Apostolic Temple, Inc.
Overcoming Power asks your continued blessings as the vision is still being unfolded as God sends help from unexpected sources.
